Currently, we are also located in different time zones, likely working from temporary home offices, occasionally with attention-needing children nearby. All attendees are expected to show patience and kindness to one another. <strong>Together we are responsible for building a WOCAL culture in which everyone feels welcomed and valued<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, the organizers of the WOCAL10 ask all participants, presenters and attendees, at all conference-related events and interactions, to bear the following code of conduct in mind:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li><strong>Be respectful of one another<\/strong>.<br><br>This means you need to be mindful of others&#8217; perspectives, opinions, contributions, and time. This also requires you to act in good faith and approach each interaction with an open mind to attendees&#8217; diverse backgrounds and experiences.<br><br><\/li><li><strong>Encourage inclusive behavior<\/strong>.<br><br>You are asked to be mindful of power differences and hierarchies in both academia and cultural-social structures. You are expected to help prevent monopolizing and intimidating actions and advocate for those without a strong voice either due to race, gender, disability, etc. or due to their junior status.<br><br><\/li><li><strong>Tolerate no harassment or unprofessional behavior in any form.<\/strong><br><br>Such prohibited actions include (but are not limited to) intimidating speech\/text\/images, demeaning comments against someone\u2019s background (linguistic or otherwise) and identity (e.g., gender identity, disability, age, body size, or religion), as well as unwanted contact.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples of inclusive behaviour are encouraging a junior colleague to ask a question first, inviting someone you do not know yet to a conversation in the online coffee room, being patient when another participant is trying their best to explain something in a second or third language, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you notice unwelcome behaviour, please contact Maarten Mous (m.mous@hum.leidenuniv.nl), Azeb Amha (a.amha@asc.leidenuniv.nl), or Jenneke van der Wal (g.j.van.der.wal@hum.leidenuniv.nl). Participants who violate the code of behavior will be warned, and will be asked to leave by the host if the inappropriate behavior persists. If needed, the Code of Conduct <a href=\"https:\/\/www.staff.universiteitleiden.nl\/human-resources\/hr-policy-and-code-of-conduct\/code-of-conduct\/code-of-conduct-integrity\/humanities\/centre-for-linguistics?cd=centre-for-linguistics&amp;cf=humanities\">Integrity<\/a> of Leiden University will be adhered to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"codeofConductfr\"><strong>Pour une conf\u00e9rence WOCAL10 inclusive et respectueuse des personnes<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c0 WOCAL10, nous venons tous d&#8217;horizons tr\u00e8s divers, chacun apportant ses talents, ses comp\u00e9tences et sa personnalit\u00e9. Nous nous trouvons \u00e9galement dans des fuseaux horaires diff\u00e9rents, et en ces temps de pand\u00e9mie, ceux d\u2019entre nous qui t\u00e9l\u00e9travaillent le font probablement \u00e0 domicile o\u00f9 ils\/elles doivent s\u2019occuper en m\u00eame temps de leur famille.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Afin de garantir une bonne ambiance de travail, nous invitons tous les participants \u00e0 faire preuve de patience et d\u2019empathie envers les autres. Ensemble, nous sommes responsables du d\u00e9veloppement d&#8217;une culture WOCAL dans laquelle chacun se sent accueilli et valoris\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les organisateurs de WOCAL10 demandent \u00e0 tous les participants, pr\u00e9sentateurs et personnes pr\u00e9sentes, lors de tous les \u00e9v\u00e9nements et \u00e9changes li\u00e9s \u00e0 la conf\u00e9rence, d\u2019observer les r\u00e8gles de conduite suivantes :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. <strong>Soyez respectueux les uns des autres<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vous devez \u00eatre attentifs aux perspectives, aux opinions, aux contributions des autres et respecter leur temps de parole. Cela exige de tous de la bonne foi et une ouverture d\u2019esprit dans chaque intervention ou interaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. <strong>Encouragez un comportement inclusif<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nous vous demandons d&#8217;\u00eatre attentifs aux diff\u00e9rences hi\u00e9rarchiques qui peuvent exister tant dans le milieu universitaire que dans la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral. Nous comptons sur vous pour emp\u00eacher les comportements de domination ou d&#8217;intimidation pouvant survenir lors des discussions. Soyez aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de ceux qui sont marginalis\u00e9s, que ce soit du fait de leur race, leur orientation sexuelle, leur handicap, ou simplement de leur statut hi\u00e9rarchique jug\u00e9 inf\u00e9rieur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. <strong>Ne tol\u00e9rer aucun harc\u00e8lement ou comportement non professionnel sous quelque forme que ce soit<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parmi ces comportements r\u00e9pr\u00e9hensibles, on peut citer des paroles, des textes ou des images destin\u00e9s \u00e0 intimider les coll\u00e8gues, des commentaires d\u00e9valorisants portant sur le profil (linguistique ou non) de quelqu\u2019un et son identit\u00e9 (p. ex. son genre, son handicap, son physique, son \u00e2ge ou sa religion), ou encore des demandes trop insistantes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Par comportement inclusif, nous entendons l\u2019effort de tout un chacun \u00e0 c\u00e9der sa place pour encourager un coll\u00e8gue junior \u00e0 poser une question, \u00e0 inviter un coll\u00e8gue \u00e0 participer \u00e0 la pause caf\u00e9 en ligne, \u00e0 \u00eatre patient lorsqu\u2019un participant fait de son mieux pour expliquer quelque chose dans une langue autre que sa langue maternelle, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Si vous constatez un comportement inopportun, veuillez contacter Maarten Mous (m.mous@hum.leidenuniv.nl), Azeb Amha (a.amha@asc.leidenuniv.nl) ou Jenneke van der Wal (g.j.van.der.wal@hum.leidenuniv.nl).
