The World Congress of African Linguistics is the only truly international and pan-theoretical conference in the field of African Linguistics, with a strong emphasis on the participation of African scholars.
Its meetings have been organised 3-yearly since the first World Congress in 1994 in Kwazulu-Natal. The aims and structure of WOCAL are set out in the constitution. WOCAL is led by an international steering committee and is headed by current President Felix K. Ameka.
